Mobile broadband - WAP to 3G

Have you ever felt the need to go on the web urgently and not had a computer/laptop around you? Ofcourse, everyone has had that. Sending an important mail or passing on your D-Day presentation to your boss.

All this now would be in the past with the up and coming mobile broadband technology. Mobile internet started with WAP where we used to get 1-3 KB/s speeds and were only able to surf limited websites or do very limited work. Then came the era of GPRS which is still commonly used with speeds of 10 KB/s approximately (varying with carriers). This is one of the most common data services in the world at the moment along with EDGE which is a faster/newer version of GPRS.

The days of 3G are not to far in the future. With 3G we will be able to get speeds of over 1Mbps on our mobile phones and PDAs.

So with the new gadgets and iPhones/BlackBerrys around everyone will have quick access to their offices and even their home PCs for that matter by using the right software. This will enable you to get access to the web not worrying about catching a Wi-Fi network from your college or your neighbours router. At the start it will have problems like all new technologies do, but a year or so down the line we can expect people to be even faster in communication than what they are today.!
